Vietnamese Badminton 2026: Le Hong Quan Wins National Title

Ha Noi, March 12, 2026 – At Quan Ngua Stadium, Le Hong Quan was crowned men's singles champion of the 14th National Badminton Championship after a convincing win over Tran Van Son 11-4, 11-2 in a 26-minute final. This year's tournament featured 47 athletes from 9 provinces, and for the first time applied the international 11-point scoring system. It was seen as an important assessment for the national team ahead of the SEA Games, after a long period without international achievements. The highlight of the final was Quan's net-drop technique. He won 78% of net-play points, leaving Son almost unable to mount attacks. In women's singles, the surprise came from 17-year-old Nguyen Thi Minh Hoa, who eliminated defending champion Pham Thu Ha to reach the final. However, reality must be faced: Vietnamese players' achievements have only been on the domestic stage. Quan's net game will be less effective against Indonesian or Malaysian opponents with stronger physical foundations. Coach Nguyen Hoang Long admitted that Son's level is not a proper benchmark. Nevertheless, this title showed a generation that knows how to wait for opponents' mistakes. Whether they can maintain that composure when facing international opponents – the path ahead will provide the answer.
